The Attorney General’s Office has filed criminal charges against the cashier of the Tinian Health Center’s accounting section who was accused of stealing the hospital’s collection in the amount of $6,926.40.

Acting Chief Prosecutor Kevin Lynch filed an information on Thursday charging Renada Maelyn SN Palacios with theft by failure to make required disposition of funds received and theft as an alternative to the first charge.

Lynch stated in the information that on Oct. 4 and Nov. 8, 2006 on Tinian, Palacios purposely obtained property in the amount of $6,926.40 from Tinian Health Center.

According to Tinian police, the 26-year-old Palacios did not deposit to Finance Office the Health Center’s collection for eight days last October in the amount of $4,871.17 and for three days last November in the amount of $2,055.23.

Tinian Health Center Director Rita Manglona sought help from the police last Nov. 16 after receiving from their accountant an incident report about deposit discrepancies.

The accountant apparently discovered the discrepancies on their daily cash collection from October to Nov. 8 when the Finance’s cashier reported that the daily deposit for Tinian Health Center has been delinquent.
