Martin Luther King Day Essay & Elocution contest set

This past April, Gov. Benigno R. Fitial signed the bill enacting Martin Luther King Jr. Day as an official CNMI holiday commencing on Jan. 15, 2007.

In honor of this approaching Commonwealth-wide commemoration of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday, the African American Cultural Preservation Committee on Saipan, in association with Congresswoman Cinta Kaipat, and The Beautify CNMI! Coalition are pleased to announce the first annual Martin Luther King Jr. Essay & Elocution Contest open to all students of the CNMI.

[B]ESSAY[/B]

Students are asked to write a 500-1000 word essay on the following:

“Has Martin Luther King’s dream for a better society, and the advancements of the Civil Rights Movement affected us here in the CNMI? If not, why? If so, how?”

[B]ELOCUTION[/B]

Besides his famous “I Have A Dream” speech, Dr King was a profound thinker who spoke passionately on many subjects. Students are asked to memorize an excerpt from their favorite speech and present it. [B][I](PR)[/I][/B]
