Schultz nearly speechless after season
It is one thing to play a spirited championship game, but Brenda Schultz did far more for the Fiesta Resort and Spa Femme Fatales than score a key goal and rush up and down the field.
As the organizer of the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association Women’s League, Schultz was the walking pulse of the women’s soccer on Saipan. Many recognize her as the driving force behind the league, but the player/coordinator refocused compliments to her teammates for a successful season on the pitch.
“Literally people didn’t know how to kick a ball, they didn’t know positions, or anything. It’s all through our awesome coaches and awesome referees, and through all of the guidance that we’ve received through everybody,” she said.
At one point or another it seemed as if Schultz covered the entire field during the championship game with tireless intensity, and the Femme Fatales forward said that everyone in the league stepped up their level of play throughout the year.
“It was really, really well. I felt that both teams were really, really well. It was just incredible to see how the women have improved incredibly much throughout the year,” she said.
During the post-game awards ceremony there was plenty of talk about building upon the local program’s success and the future of soccer in the Marianas, Schultz credited her peers for their efforts and said that everyone had a stake in the development in the CNMI’s brand of ball.
“You can se we have pretty competitive women’s soccer on Saipan now and that’s something that we can all be proud of,” she said.
