Ten individuals representing various sports were nominated to serve as directors in the Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association board during the body’s monthly meeting last Thursday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room.

Among those nominated were Jeff Race of tennis, Michael White of basketball, Michael Stewart of swimming, Rose Igitol of baseball, Joe Ocampo of wrestling, Robin Sapong of athletics, Jess Wabol of golf, Jon Cramer of volleyball, Tony Rogolifoi of baseball and basketball, and Elias Rangamar of athletics and basketball.

The current board of directors include White, Stewart, Louie Wabol, Rogolifoi, Igitol, and Margaret Palacios.

Shortly after the nominations were closed, White announced that the general membreship will elect from the nominations the new board that will serve NMASA in 2007.

After the election, the newly formed board will meet and elect its officers who will serve as president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer.

Meanwhile, NMASA is already prepping for the annual Sports Banquet, which will be held sometime in mid-February.

The event serves as a venue for NMASA to recognize all male, female, male student, and female student athletes of the month for 2006, as well as crown the athletes of the year and coach of the year.

White said he will provide the list of athletes of the month to the general membership for review as voting for the athletes and coach of the year will take place in the next NMASA monthly meeting, which will be held on Jan. 4, 2007.

Also, only one individual was nominated to the NMASA Hall of Fame. The nomination was made by Northern Marianas Athletics, and the general membership will vote in the next meeting to determine if the individual gets inducted.

Thursday’s meeting was served as the final opporunity for sports federations to submit nominations for the NMASA Hall of Fame.

With much to be discussed and decided on, White encourages all members to be present during the next meeting.
