Nehemiah finally hit paydirt Monday night routing Gideon, 99-84, at the CIM-FCC Basketball Court in Gualo Rai for its first win in the 2nd CIM-FCC Inter-Color Basketball League-Genesis Cup.
Big men Melvin Capalad and Reynaldo “Badong” Camacho went to work early, as the duo combined for 20 points to help Nehemiah open a whopping 18-point lead, 32-14, after the first quarter.

Capalad and Camacho got a lift from John Mark Llagas and birthday boy Ruel Cayanan in the second, as the two guards fired four and five points, respectively.

With all four players having their way against a porous Gideon defense, Nehemiah continued to dominate the game and rested at halftime ahead by the same margin, 55-37.

It was more of the same in the third, as Cayanan heated up the
net for eight more points, while the rest of his teammates provided stout defense, which allowed Nehemiah to enter the fourth and final quarter comfortably ahead by 22 points, 79-57.
Randy Toto tried to rally winless Gideon in the payoff period, but his 14 points in the final 10 minutes of the ballgame wasn’t enough, as Nehemiah completed the 15-point drubbing.

Camacho went on to lead the now 1-2 Nehemiah team with 33 points, while Capalad added 21. Llagas and Cayanan also totaled 14 points apiece in the victory. Toto was the highpoint man for 0-4 Gideon with 20 markers.

In the second game, Sonny Lerio shot the lights out from outside, while Ruther Demigillo dominated the inside as Elijah took the starch out of Samuel, 84-67.

Elijah got the ball rolling by limiting Samuel to seven points in
first stanza, 17-7, before taking the half, 36-24. Elijah put on a shooting display in the third and sped away for a 55-34 lead with a quarter to go before topping it with the 17-point victory.
Lerio and Demegillo paced Elijah with 24 and 21 markers, respectively, while J.P. Kim led the way for Samuel with 14 points.

The 2nd CIM-FCC Inter-Color Basketball League-Genesis Cup continues tomorrow with Daniel taking on Caleb in the first game. The second game then features Jeremiah against Hosea.
