Does anyone have a clue?

I have been on Tinian for nearly three years and enjoy the slow paced lifestyle. However, what bothers me, is the seemingly lack of intelligence when it comes to fix the potholes that adorn a few highly used roads in the town proper. Time and time again, after heavy rain, the potholes appear, with some of them several inches deep and several inches up to a foot or two across. Yet the highway division can never find the right material to properly fill the dangers to our motorist. Over and over, the holes are filled with sand. DUH!!! Doesn’t anyone in the highway division realize that sand will only wash away with the next rain? Is the reason sand is used is to keep some relative of the local government employed? These holes are right in front of the Mayor’s Office, too, so does he not drive the roads and see how the roads deteriorate? I believe Tinian receives federal funds for highway repair, so where is all the money going to repair the roads? It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure out if the roads in front of Kim’s Market and from Broadway to the high schools are paved properly (using asphalt or concrete with a bit of rebar), there would be no need for constant maintenance.

Secondly, another brain surgeon has determined Tinian doesn’t need the street lights that run the main road down to the Dynasty Hotel. Doesn’t anyone realize a lot of residents like to walk along the sidewalk after sundown, but with no streetlights, it becomes a hazard. Lighting up just the street corners is not sufficient. In addition, it appears there will be no Christmas lights on Tinian, which will make the holidays very boring and not in keeping with the holiday traditions. Why can’t someone find the funds to enable the island to have our Christmas lights, to show not only the tourists but residents as well our Christmas spirit that only occurs this time of year. It makes everyone happy and joyous seeing the Christmas lights along the road and puts everyone in the right spirit. With no lights, the joy of Christmas dwindles and the residents have to suffer for the past mismanagement of the power company. Once again, the people do not come first on this island paradise.
