Beijing charter flight to land this Monday
The Marianas Visitors Authority said the inaugural charter flight from Beijing will land on Saipan on Dec. 18, 2006. The charter is being coordinated by Century Tours and the flights will be operated by Air China.
The charter service will be twice weekly and will continue until Feb. 26 and will again resume on March 25, 2007 through Dec. 30, 2007. The flights will arrive in Saipan on Thursdays and Sundays and will depart on Fridays and Mondays.
For the inaugural arrival, there will be a celebration at the Saipan airport. Activities include dancers and musicians entertaining the arriving guests, a shell lei greeting, mwar-mwar greetings to the VIPs arriving on the flight, a short welcome speech, a cake cutting ceremony with the captain of the flight and the lead flight attendant.
Local officials who will fly to Beijing to return on the charter are MVA managing director Perry Tenorio, MVA marketing director Wayne Pangelinan, HANMI chairwoman Lynn Knight, Saipan Chamber of Commerce president-elect Juan Guerrero, Commonwealth Development Authority’s Committee on Commerce & Tourism chair Vincent Calvo, Rep. Martin Ada, Sen. Maria Pangelinan, House Speaker Oscar Babauta and MVA board member Seiji Sato. There will also be Chinese dignitaries on the flight. The flight will bring in 194 people.
“This is exciting and positive news for our islands,” said Tenorio. “Our China arrivals should increase considerably with this regularly scheduled charter flight. I would like to personally thank Century Tours for arranging this flight out of Beijing.” (PR)
