Appreciation Day at Laolao Bay
While hosting an event to determine its 2007 Club Champion, the Laolao Bay Golf Resort is also offering another golf tournament in hopes of giving golfers of all levels of play a shot at winning this Saturday.
According to Laolao Bay Golf Resort director of research and business development Jerry P. Tiu, the establishment will host the Double Peoria Classic, which will coincide with its Appreciation Day.
The tournament is unique in comparison to other tournaments as it offers prizes for various places.
Tiu explained that aside from the $1,000 for the first place finisher, $600 for second place, and $400 for third place, the event will also offer $300 for low gross, as well as $200 for the second to last place finisher.
In addition to the mentioned prizes, $300 will be presented to golfers that place 10th, 16th, and 20th, while $200 will be won by golfers that finish 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th, 70th, and 80th.
“It’s a nice way to play golf,” Tiu said. “Golfers are used to playing and trying their best and pray hard that they finish in the Top 3. This tournament gives others the opportunity to experience what its like to win a golf tournament, and that make’s it unique.”
Organizers have secretly selected holes that will be used to determine the handicap of golfers, which adds a little more spice to the tournament. Golfers are not aware which holes will be used, and those who score high on selected holes will benefit with higher handicaps.
Tiu also disclosed that the tournament will also feature small competitions such as straightest drives on two par-5 holes, as well as two hole-in-one contest, with each hole worth $10,000.
Tui added that shortly after the competition, organizers will draw 15 names, and those whose names are picked will have a chance at winning $100,000 in the Hole-in-One Shot-of-a-Lifetime Contest.
Despite all the goodies offered, organizers will only charge participants $90 to take part.
Show time is set for 11am, with tee time at noon. The awards banquet will be held at 5:30pm.
“We want to break the image that the golf course is a high class place that only a few people can step into. We’d like to invite the local community, golfers, and non-golfers, and we encourage them to bring their families,” Tiu said.
Appreciation Day at Laolao Bay offers the community more than just the tournament.
The Range will feature Happy Hour prices all day, with a bucket of balls costing just $1. Used brand name golf sets will also be on sale.
“Those are really good for people who want to start and they’re all brand names,”Tiu said.
The Pro Shop will also feature 30-50 percent discount on all items, and for every $150 purchase, customers will recieve a free round of golf.
“The Pro Shop is definitely the most complete shop in Saipan. It has a complete line of apparel, shoes, brands…for street fashion and golf fashion. We have a good local following at the shop,” Tiu said.
“We want the community to know and to learn to enjoy high quality brands, new technology fabrics at affordable prices,” he added.
The evening will then close with an appreciation dinner from 6pm to 9pm. The dinner will feature music entertainment, table magic, and will close with fireworks. Prices for the dinner are $7 for adults and $4 for kids.
“We’re trying to create a total entertaiment day for the community, and hopefully, as well continue to upgrade and expand, they’ll be more for them to try, to taste, and to experience,” Tiu added.
