For both Wangs, they said that the course was a breeze to get through as there wasn’t much competition. Both are athletes in ACS with Jireh in the cross country team, while Barbara is also in the cross country team along with volleyball and basketball.
From the route that began and ended at the Hyatt Regency Saipan Club Elan parking lot, about 35 runners participated in the free race hosted by the Northern Marianas Athletics/Run Saipan and the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.
Martine Fulling, public health associate for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention who was at the race along with CHCC staff, said “April’s Oral Cancer Awareness Month and so we wanted to have an event that kind of brought the community together. We decided to partner with Run Saipan because we have common goals of making a healthier CNMI so we came together for a really nice partnership to have in this event this morning.”
They also lined the finish line with paper bags decorated by children with the Oral Cancer Awareness Month as CHCC did outreach at schools.
As for the race turnout, she said “it was good. There were lots of people. I think it was raining in other parts of the island so not everybody that registered came but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
NMA thanked the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., Run Saipan, and the Commonwealth Cancer Association, Saipan International School, Department of Public Safety, PDI, CCVI Canoe Federation, IT&E, Hyatt Regency Saipan, The Shack, and volunteers.
