The 2008 Indoor Volleyball Winter League is set to end today after a two-month run when the two finalists in the men’s and women’s divisions clash for the title at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

No Fear and YoYo’s earned the first finals berth after beating separate opponents in yesterday’s playoffs.

No Fear earned the first finals slot in the men’s side after a three-set 25-23, 24-26, 15-6 win over Ol’Aces. They will face Fanians in the finals after they defeated Ol’Aces, 25-14, 25-21.

No Fear finished second behind pennant winner Menudo in the standings as they ended the regular season with an 11-5 mark.

Top seed Menudo faded in the playoffs as they could not find the same spunk that allowed them to finish with a league-best 12-4 mark.

Fanians was third in the standings with a 10-6 slate similar to Ol’Aces. Some of Fanians wins were against teams that finished in the Top 4, including a stunning upset of Menudo in the early goings of the league.

The No Fear-Fanians match is set at 7:30pm after the YoYo’s-Pikan Gaga game at 6:30pm.

In the women’s division, YoYo’s earned the first finals berth not Pikan Gaga in an earlier report. YoYo’s scored a hard-earned 25-16, 22-25, 15-10 win over the league-leading Pikan Gaga on Monday.

Pikan Gaga met with the Beach Jammers yesterday for the right to face YoYo’s in the finals at stake.

The Beach Jammers earned the right of facing Pikan Gaga after a 25-21, 25-27, 15-13 triumph over Seikid.

But their luck ran out when they suffered a straight sets 11-25, 17-25 loss to Pikan Gaga, which topped the elimination with a league-best 11-1 card. Pikan Gaga’s lone loss was against YoYo’s on Feb. 28 that ended their eight-game winning run. YoYo’s had the second-best record with an 8-4 slate.

In other news, the Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association are advising interested teams to prepare for the 2008 Jam Attack, which runs from April 4 to 6.
