Tourists fall victim to Marpi burglars

Two tourist families on a sightseeing tour in Marpi fell victim to burglars in two separate incidents Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at 1:26pm, DPS received a report of a burglary and theft incident that occurred at the Last Command Post in Marpi.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the victim and his family went sight seeing at the Last Command Post. Around 15 minutes into their sightseeing, the victim returned to his rented vehicle, which was parked at the southern end near the Korean monument, and discovered that the driver’s rear passenger window had been shattered.

The perpetrator(s) in this case stole the victim’s passport, credit card, and an undetermined amount of money.

The next day, April 2, 2008, at 4:35pm, DPS received another report of a burglary and theft incident that occurred at the Suicide Cliff lookout in Marpi.

Based on preliminary findings, a Korean family of five went sightseeing at the Suicide Cliff lookout. Police learned that an unknown man had entered their vehicle and stole several items belonging to the victims. They included a black bag, an IBM Lenova laptop, passports and an undetermined amount of money. The victims are tourists.

Police investigators are currently investigating these cases.
