Sen. Paul A. Manglona has expressed his disappointment with Education Commissioner David Borja for not “properly addressing the concerns of Rota parents and PTA members” on the issue between Rota High School Lynne Michael and Board of Education member Tanya Denise King.

“It appears to me that the Commissioner has taken a biased stance on this issue and cannot objectively assess the situation,” Manglona said.

The senator accused Borja of dismissing concerns of parents and PTA members, “while at the same time admitting that bullying and intimidation has taken place at the school.”

“I feel this flies in the face of the Rota parents, teachers and PTA members who have expressed their concerns regarding the management of RHS,” Manglona said.

He added that he knows what it means to work with “hand in hand with these stakeholders.”

“The parents and PTA members are intimately aware of the happenings and needs at their schools. We should encourage their participation and input rather than dismiss their concerns as over-reactive and emotional,” Manglona said.

Manglona believes that there are some real and legitimate concerns among Rota residents as to how the high school is being managed.

“It is the board’s duty to respond to these concerns and make recommendations to resolve the matter,” he said. (Rianne Pangelinan-Brown)
