Microl Corp. continued to command the lion’s share of new vehicle sales last March, which saw the Commonwealth Auto Dealers Association record a 23.53-percent drop in units sold.

The San Jose auto dealership experienced a five-unit drop in March 2008 to 25, a 16.67-percent decrease from the 30 disposed of in the same period last year.

Despite this, Microl continued to lord it over Joeten Motors and Triple J Motors by cornering 48.08 percent of the market. Its sales for the month of March consist of 17 cars, one truck, two vans, and five sports utility vehicles.

A stone’s throw away north of Beach Road, Joeten Motors, meanwhile, captured 28.85 percent of the market after selling 15 units.

The number actually represents a 21.05-percent decline in units sold compared to March 2007, which saw buyers drive away with 19 vehicles from Joeten Motors. Broken down, March 2008 sales was made up of eight cars, two trucks, and five SUVs.

Triple J Motors brings up the rear with 12 total vehicles sold in March 2008. That equates to 23.08 percent of the market but is a 36.84-percent slide from the 19 units sold by the Garapan auto dealership in the same period last year. Eight cars, two trucks, and two SUVs were disposed of by Triple J Motors last month.

In terms of vehicle brands, Toyota was again No. 1 with 25 units snapped up in March 2008, followed by Mazda with eight, Ford with six, Honda with four, Nissan with three, and Kia, Hyundai, and Mitsubishi with two vehicles sold apiece.

Joeten Motors is the distributor for Nissan, Ford, Honda, and Kia. Microl Corp. sells Toyota and Chevrolet. Triple J Motors peddles Mazda, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, and Suzuki.

Despite the 23-percent decline in car sales last month, CADA remains calm, pointing out that compared to last year’s January-March figures, CADA’s new vehicle sales actually are up by eight units during the first three months of 2008.

The March report from CADA showed that automobile sales in the first quarter of the current year have a total of 190 units, compared to 182 units sold during the same period in 2007.
