MHS students send scorpions to NY museum
Biology students from Marianas High School gathered on campus last Thursday night with teacher Michael Blasberg to hunt scorpions.
Using a UV flashlight, students were able to locate and capture several Liocheles australasiae scorpions. The specimens will be preserved and sent to the Museum of Natural History in New York where they will be placed on file with the Zoology division.
Several scorpions were captured last semester as part of a classification unit and students contacted Associate curator Lorenzo Prendini, PhD of the Arachnids & Myriapods division to assist in identifying the small scorpions. The museum then requested several persevered samples to keep on file at the museum. (MHS)
