Grace Christian Academy will be doing a one-night-only musical performance about faith based on the book Pirates of the I-don’t care-ibbean by Barny Robertson and Jeff Smith

The play is set for tonight at the GCA campus from 6pm to 8pm.

The main cast of the musical is composed of 16 students from kindergarten to the fifth grade.

The story is set inside Pirate Park, home of the Plattsburg Pirates (not to be confused with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Jeff’s favorite baseball team!). It is a pirate night at the stadium and families are in the bleachers dressed as pirates to support their woefully bad team.

Just like Dorothy traveling back to the Land of Oz, the story starts with a dream sequence where a young fan named Andy gets hit in the head with a baseball and travels to a fantastical island in the Caribbean called Johnny Bay.

As the story unfolds, the audience will learn that the pirates don’t remember anything about their past or how they came to Johnny Bay. All they know is that they are required to guard the captain’s treasure from anyone who may want to steal it.

GCA music and drama teacher David Hamot said that toward the end of the story, the pirates will find out that the captain has been feeding them lies, prompting them to assume their rightful place in the sea. Ultimately, the story is about faith and how important an individual is to God.

Hamot said that there would be singing, song interpretations and musical numbers.

Tickets for tonight’s musical event are $5 for children and $7 for adults. They are available at the GCA Business Office and at the door.
