Simply respect

This letter is in relation to the letter published May 1, 2008. Just like any other ordinary guest workers, I am not affiliated with any organizations. I am not even a friend of Irene Tantiado or Jerry Custodio.

I respect others’ opinions and ideas and oftentimes argue. But I am here to remind my kababayan to be more respectful in all words that we say and letters and opinions to be published or posted in any blog. I have been a victim of this kind and it does not feel good to be in that situation.

If a group of people wants to organize another group, so be it. We are in a democratic place, so we can do whatever we want to do legally but not to the extent of hurting or insulting other people of whatever nationality, especially our kababayan.

People are correct when they say that we have to respect the image of the Unity March and I firmly believe that we should respect the people who participated and supported it, which comprised mostly of guest workers.

This is really a time of uncertainties. We are hearing a lot of rumors, wrong information, and false hopes. I am requesting all my kababayan, if there is an issue we want to raise, let’s have the nerve to personally ask the other party to sit down, talk face to face and settle the issues. Not in a media, not in a blog.

We are not really sure right now what would happen in the next few months or years, but one thing is sure, we will still be Filipinos in years to come. Some of us may leave this island sooner or later. Some of us would be lucky enough to stay. But all of us have been part of this community. Let us maintain the nice image we have created.
