Anti-domestic violence proclamation signing on Oct. 3
The public is invited to attend the 2018 Domestic Violence Awareness Month proclamation signing ceremony that will be held at 10am on Oct. 3 at Saipan World Resort’s Royal Taga Hall.
The ceremony, which is hosted by the Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence and the Family Violence Task Force, will mark nearly 25 years of October being recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the CNMI.
The proclamation signing ceremony will also feature speakers and the presentation of the Bridge of Light Award, as well as exhibits from different community programs.
Community members are also invited to the Walk & Roll Against Sexual Violence that will be held later at the Koblerville Youth Center. The public can register starting at 5pm with the walk starting at 5:30pm. Walk & Roll event participants also are encouraged to bring signs or banners to help spread awareness on domestic violence.
There are a variety of events happening in Saipan, Rota, and Tinian throughout the month, including Walk & Rolls, candlelight vigils in memory of victims of domestic violence, family fun events, and even a softball tournament. Also, there will be public discussions with a variety of guest speakers on topics related to domestic violence on KKMP 92.1 FM every on Tuesday morning in October. There will also be a guest appearance on the Marianas Agupa’ radio show (100.3 FM) on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018.
A theme is chosen each year by the DVAM Committee, which is composed of NMCADSV, FVTF, partner programs and agencies, and community volunteers. The DVAM theme for this year is “Support. Encourage. Empower.”
