Fixers snap skid in masters division
The win came in late for the Fixers as they won’t advance to the next round but it was enough to salvage some pride in their luckless campaign in the 2008 FMI Inter-Color Basketball League.
The Fixers foiled the Taga Warriors’ repeated comeback tries to score an 86-76 win in Sunday’s masters division game at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The win snapped the Fixers’ six-game slide, which saw them lose by an average of 7.5 points per game. They were only blown out once, suffering a 89-106 clipping from the Warriors on April 20. Their other losses were either by five points or less.
Edsel Delfin scattered 13 points to lead the Fixers’ balanced scoring attack with Yasu Irinaka adding 12 markers, while George Villasan also finished with 12.
Richard Brostrom scored nine of his 11 points in the final period, hitting timely baskets to keep the Warriors at bay. The indefatigable Bruce Berline and John Johlend combined for 16 points.
Ronald Delos Reyes remained the Warriors’ top scorer ending up with 27 points but failed to get the needed support from his teammates as Jun Abedes managed to score 16.
No other Warrior scored in double figures with Ed Cosino being limited to only eight markers.
Pawnbrokers 107, Waterkings 70In the first game, GEC Pawnshop fortified its bid of advancing to the next round with an easy 107-70 victory over Star Water.
The Pawnbrokers pulled away early in the game to breeze past the Waterkings to improve to 5-2 and stay close behind the 6-1 slates of Ol’Aces and the Advance X-Terminators.
Mark Wallace paced the Pawnbrokers with 31 points with Manuel Ajoste and Budz Camacho scoring 26 and 18 each. Mike Umali and Mike Olaitiman combined for 17 markers.
Krisgel Arreza, who missed a number of games, returned to the Waterkings’ lineup scoring 23 points to lead Star Water’s losing cause. Gil Gapor added 15 more.
Foodmakers 98, Storemasters 69Ryan Sanciangco remains Shirley’s Coffee Shop/Blue Haus’ main man leading the Foodmakers to a 98-69 rout of the Price Costco Storemasters.

Elmer Esdrelon and Darwin Barbo contributed 15 and 14 each while Steve Rasa netted 11 more for the Foodmakers.
Berline scored 14 to lead the Storemasters, while Brostrom and Duenas netted 11 and 10 apiece.
