Three bush fires broke out at separate areas in As Matuis yesterday, sweeping down three to four acres of grassland.

No one was reported injured. No house or structure was affected, according to Department of Public Safety spokesperson Lei Ogumoro.

Police officers also responded to the area and maintained the traffic flow along the highway near the former La Fiesta Mall yesterday afternoon as thick smoke caused zero visibility.

Commonwealth Utilities Corp. crew members were also dispatched to the area as a couple of power poles were damaged.

Ogumoro said the first fire was reported at 8:51am, while the second happened at 12:15pm and the third one broke out at 2:26pm.

The two fires occurred near the former La Fiesta Mall, while the other fire was near the Pau Pau Beach.

Ogumoro said 14 firefighters responded to the area to contain the separate blazes.

She said the cause of the fires was still under investigation.

Last week, a bush fire that lasted for two days devastated a big portion of a mountain in Kannat Tabla and Chalan Kiya areas.

Last April 21, bush fire broke out at Wireless Antenna area in Capital Hill, reportedly destroying 600 acres of grassland.

Two days later, smoke blanketed some areas in Kannat Tabla, Chalan Laulau, and Chalan Kiya as grassfire lasted for about two hours.
