Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Acting Secretary Melvin Faisao said the future Washington Delegate “should prioritize and take into account federal roll out assistance.”

DCCA oversees a number of public assistance such as the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, Nutrition Assistance Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Child Care Development, youth and juvenile services, cultural preservation, and other community services.

Faisao said in his own personal opinion and as a person who frequently deals with the community at large, “the CNMI delegate, whoever is elected by CNMI voters, should prioritize and take into account federal roll out assistance such as increase in financial assistance.”

To date, resident Rep. Pete A. Tenorio has formally announced his candidacy for CNMI delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Tenorio, who has represented the CNMI in Washington, D.C. for over six years, is the first to declare his bid for the new position.

Other candidates reported to be interested in running for delegate include Finance Secretary Eloy Inos, Associate Judge Juan Lizama, Election Commission executive director Gregorio Sablan, and former attorney general and now attorney in private practice Robert Torres.
