Alien workers’ group seeks help from FBI, DPS over death threat
A leader of alien workers’ group yesterday sought help from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Public Safety after he received a death threat.
The workers’ group leader went to FBI’s office yesterday morning to report the threat on his life then proceeded to DPS headquarters to file a complaint.
The group leader, who requested anonymity for security purposes, told Saipan Tribune he was a little bit scared, but that this would not stop him from leading their group’s cause for justice and fairness.
“I guess it’s (threat) part of the game. But this will not stop me from exercising my rights to express under the U.S. democratic system,” he said.
He said a male person called his telephone Sunday at 8:45am, uttered profanities and threatened to kill him.
The workers’ group leader said when he talked back, the caller hung up the phone.
It was the first death threat that the workers’ group leader had received.
Human rights advocate Wendy Doromal in an e-mail to Saipan Tribune yesterday said when she learned about the threat she advised the group’s leader to seek help from the FBI and DPS.
“The guest workers’ organizations and their courageous leaders who are constantly attacked by letter writers will not go away; they will unify and strengthen to become an even more prevalent and powerful voice in the CNMI,” Doromal said.
She said if the people of the CNMI do not stop the fight and accept the changes that are around the corner, they will hurt only themselves.
“The days of fighting the federal government are past. It’s a new era, and people need to accept that fact,” Doromal stressed.
