Seventeen-year-old Katy Johnson just graduated from the Saipan International School with valedictory honors but it was not her academic performance that was recently on display at the Coffee Care on Capital Hill.

For those who don’t know, Johnson is also a creative soul, an outstanding artist specializing in pencil, colored pencil, and charcoal drawings and ceramics.

She recently had an exhibition of her work at the Coffee Care from May 17-23, 2008. The first night drew approximately 50 people to the exhibit, while the rest of the days were open to general admission. This event was free for the public.

Johnson said she has been interested in art since she was child but it was only in her sophomore year that she started drawing a lot.

“I enjoyed myself as I really had a good time in the opening night. I felt like it was the beginning of my artistic career,” said Johnson.
