Four Patriots headline Major All-Stars
Fittingly so, four out of the 14 players selected for the Saipan Major League All-Stars come from the division’s three-time champions SaipanCell Patriots.
Headlining this year’s top 9-12-year-old ballplayers are Patriots flame-throwing pitcher Chris Mizer, third baseman Jeremy Rabauliman, shortstop Jared Sablan, and catcher Jun Rabauliman.
Joining them in the lineup are two Hustlers I pitchers Raymond Saralu and A.J. Lizama, Pirates infielders first baseman Frankie Camacho and second baseman Jonah Flores as well as Red Sox leftfielder Jerome Reyes, Little Lions centerfielder Keene Deleon Guerrero, PTI Dolphins rightfielder R.J. Knecht, Braves catcher Ricky Joe Riungel, and pitchers Jeremy Lizama of Ol’Aces and Poland Masaharu of Survivors.
Selected as manager of the Saipan Major League All-Stars was Randall Aguon of the Red Sox, while Ol’Aces’ Elmer Sablan and Patriots’ Many Sablan will serve as head coach and assistant coach.
The 14-man Saipan Major League All-Stars will go up against teams from Tinian and Rota in the district tournament for the division set on June 12 and 13 on Rota.
The Major League District Tournament will be played at the new Joaquin Ogo Sr. Baseball Field in Sinapalo.
Major All-Star teams from the three major islands of the Commonwealth will play in a double round-robin format to decide which team will represent the islands in the regional tournaments set next month in Hong Kong.
The SaipanCell Patriots won the Major League championship last May 28 following a 15-0 demolition of the Dragons.
It marked the third straight year, the Thelma Mizer-managed team went all the way to the finals and won the crown.
Last year, the Patriots repeated as champions after a 20-1 drubbing of the Hustlers. The win capped an 18-0 season, including 15-0 in the regular season.
The year before, the Patriots won the Major League title following an 11-7 win over the Tanapag Braves. The team went 21-0 in 2006, including 18-0 in the regular season.
