Law school, NMI High Court tie up for internship program
The CNMI Supreme Court and John Marshall Law School have established a cooperative academic program that seeks to provide practical legal experiences to motivated and capable law students.
The first law intern is Daniel C. Stafford, a third-year law student from Atlanta, Georgia, who will spend five weeks in the Supreme Court.
Stafford is a legislative history author for the John Marshall Law Journal and is academically ranked in the top of his class. During his stay, he will be assisting the Supreme Court law clerks with legal research and writing.
Stafford began his internship on Monday and expressed his excitement for the program and his new position at the Court. He said, “I am honored to have the opportunity to work alongside such talented and respected attorneys and justices, and look forward to the challenges that lie ahead.”
The internship program was the brainchild of Kathleen Burch, assistant dean of Academic Affairs for John Marshall Law School, who met with the Supreme Court justices last July to begin discussions on establishing the program.
Both the NMI Judiciary and John Marshall are excited about the potential growth of the volunteer program in future summers, as it provides hands-on experience for the students, and gives court staff valuable additional assistance. (PR)
