San Antonio Elementary School held its 6th grade promotion ceremony at their school campus stage area on Monday.

Fidel Nimer Palacios, 11, was named the Valedictorian and was awarded the Commissioner’s Award. He also got three other awards.

Palacios is the youngest son of Lolita and Jose Palacios. His brother is currently with the U.S. Army in Iraq, while his father passed away eight years ago.

His proud mother boasts that Palacios does his homework everyday, and that he likes watching the Discovery channel. Lolita said her son chooses to do his homework first before playing with his neighborhood friends.

“I am very proud of him. Nobody knew who would be the valedictorian. When the countdown came down to one, our heartbeats were really going fast. We really didn’t know. Overall, I am so happy for his hard work,” said his mother.

After getting the award, the entire family celebrated at Troung’s Restaurant.

April Rita Indalecio, 12, was this year’s Salutatorian and recipient of the Principal’s Award.

The daughter of Jing Min Zhu and Albert Indalecio, April also received the Perfect Attendance Award, the Excellence Award, and the Presidential Gold Award.

Rep. Ralph DLG Torres was the keynote speaker for the event.

Both Palacios and Indalecio will attend Hopwood Junior High next school year. They led a batch of 44 sixth graders during Monday’s ceremony.

The top 10 graduates were Palacios, Indalecio, Edinna Cepeda, Bertran Palacios, Dhale Larsen Posadas, Shirley Kentaro, Rayven Ferrer, Hiram Castro, Khaiza Germance, and Alaiza Fe Basto.
