Repair on the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s Feeder 4 Grid caused more power outage in some areas on Saipan, on top of the rolling outages being implemented yesterday.

CUC executive director Antonio S. Muna said the power division’s crew repaired a defective air break system on Feeder 3 near the Gualo Rai intersection.

Muna said the repair of the equipment allowed CUC crew members to isolate specific areas of the grid to perform systems maintenance and minimize future feeder outages.

To ensure the safety of the crew, both Feeder 1 and Feeder 3 were required to be de-energized from 8am through 10am.

“Immediately after the completion of this project the load-shedding schedule will continue until the engine repairs are completed at the power plant,” the CUC official said.

Affected from 8am to 10am was the entire Feeder 2 grid or the Commonwealth Ports Authority Puerto Rico area, and Garapan south to San Jose intersection.

In that two-hour period, the entire Feeder 3 grid also went down, cutting power to Chinatown, Sugar King, As Falepe south to the Gualo Rai intersection of Chalan Pale Arnold, Chalan Monsignor Guerrero Road and Quarter Master.

CUC Power Division acting Manager Gary P. Camacho said that from 10am to 12 noon, the outage happened at CPA/Airport, As Perdido, Upper China Town, and Upper Miha.

From 12pm to 2pm, outages were in Sadog Tasi, Wireless, Capital to Kagman and portions of Papago.

From 2pm to 4pm, the blackout rotation was in Lower Base industrial area, north to Tanapag, Achugao, San Roque, As Matuis, and Marpi.

From 4pm to 10pm, CUC set the scheduled two-hour rolling blackout in the areas of As Lito, Fina Sisu, Koblerville, As Gonno, San Antonio, Afetnas, Oleai, San Jose, Susupe, and Mount Carmel south to portions of Chalan Kanoa and Chalan Kiya.

The outage also affected San Vicente, portions of Papago, Upper and Lower Dandan, Isley Field, CPA/Airport, and As Perdido.
