Grace Christian Academy held a promotional ceremony for its Kindergarten class on May 27, with Catheryn Leila Arroyo and Autumn Justyne Camacho leading the 17 members of the Class of 2008.

Arroyo, 5, the daughter of Raymond and Janet Arroyo, was named the Valedictorian.

“I can tell you that she has worked very hard for it. She always comes home after school and does her homework by herself independently,” said Raymond.

Catheryn, who wants to be a teacher in the future, was also an Eagle Award nominee.

Last year, Catheryn received honors for K-4. She got one of the four character awards, the Joseph Servant Award, and a trophy for consistently being on the Principal’s List.

“We knew all along that she does well in school as she keeps getting an ‘A’ on her report cards, but it was only on the day of the graduation when we were surprised that she was the Valedictorian,” said Janet.

Autumn Justyne Camacho, 6, was recognized as the Salutatorian during the promotional ceremony.

Autumn, 6, is the daughter of Amparo Qutugua, a teacher at the Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School, and Chris Camacho, an analyst at the Office of the Public Auditor.

“I am very proud of her, she always does her homework. And I usually just double check it,” said Amparo. “She is also very interested in arts and craft. Everyday she is always eager to learn and read.”

Autumn’s parents plan to have her continue her studies at either Grace Christian or GTC Elementary School.

“She didn’t really realize the significance of her award,” Autumn’s mother laughed. “She calls it ‘the big trophy.’”

Autumn says wants to be a fourth-grade teacher when she grows up.

Besides Catheryn and Autumn, other students were also presented awards, including Martin Pangelinan who was conferred the Eagle Award.

The graduating class also performed the song, “We Want to See Jesus Lifted High”, and did some dances and songs, to the delight of a crowd up to 50 composed mostly of parents, teachers, and school staff.

With their certificates of completion safe under their belt, the class will now move to first grade.
