Fishing Base closed for parade
The Garapan Fishing Base Complex—boat launching ramp and the pier facility—will be closed off to all users and the general public starting June 27 through July 7, 2008, for the annual Liberation Day Parade.
In a notice issued yesterday by the 2008 Liberation Day Steering Committee and the Saipan Mayor’s Office, it said that boaters and fishermen can still use the parking area near the former Ship Ashore Restaurant.
In addition, the stretch of Beach Road from the Microl Corporation (intersection) to the Horiguchi Building in Garapan will be closed off from 1pm to 6pm on July 4 to make way for the annual parade. All secondary road intersections along the way would also be closed off until the end of the parade.
In addition, the Department of Public Safety’s Traffic Section is urging all drivers to be careful while traveling along Beach Road, Garapan. The DPS urges the public to find alternative routes during the closure.
The Liberation Day Festival itself will open starting today, June 6, and will be in operation until July 6 2008. The Liberation Day Parade will be on July 4th at 3pm-6pm, starting from the National Office Supply up to Kristo Rai. The coronation night for the Liberation Day Queen and Royal Court will be on July 2 at 7pm.
The major sponsors of the 2008 Liberation Festivities are Marpac Distributors and Pacific Telecommunications Inc. (PTI).
