Grace Christian Academy Kindergarten honored six-year-old Martin Pangilinan with this year’s Eagle Award, the school’s most prestigious award.

Pangilinan, the son of father Everly from the Office of the Public Auditor and mother, Lorie from the Worker Compensation Commission, also earned the First Honorable Mention honors, the Consistent Effort Award, and Diligence Character Award, in addition to being on the Principal’s List throughout the past school year.

The Eagle Award is given to students who demonstrate excellence in academics, citizenship, and Christian character.

“Unlike other parents, we were not even aware that such an award existed anyway. Even if we did know, we would not change our philosophy on learning. Of course we were overreacting to the wonderful news. For a moment we lost sight of our goal for Martin: Learning is fun and enjoyable,” said Everly.

The proud father relates that, for Martin, learning was “being excited in telling us on the way home from school about koala bears from Australia, the sour taste of lemon during a blindfold activity on taste buds, writing his name neatly in cursive, counting in fives using nickels, enjoying group reading, and knowing the meaning of Bible verses like John 3:16.”

He also acknowledged the role played by teacher Melissa Harper for helping unlock Martin’s potential as a student.

“Thank you, Miss Melissa Harper, for being an effective and caring teacher!” said Everly.
