Ocampo tops MCS junior high class
Billie Ryman Pensader Ocampo led Mount Carmel School’s 8th Grade Graduation on June 7 as the class Valedictorian.
The ceremony, which was held at the Mount Carmel Cathedral, also saw Ocampo receiving the Citizenship Award and Academic Excellence medal.
Ocampo has been a consistent honor student since first grade, is a treasurer of the National Junior Honor Society, and a member of the Junior Mock Trial Team.
In his speech, Ocampo described the occasion as not only the end of their grade school years and the beginning of high school but also the end of childhood and the start of the journey to become young adults.
“As we look back, we have many people to thank. Our parents who have supported us all the way, our teachers who have challenged our minds and prepared us for a brighter future, and our friends who have provided a friendly environment and stuck with us through the good and challenging times. Looking back to the day when we first started middle school, it was hard to imagine what it felt like to be here. However, we have stayed on course and through the past years, we have completed tons of homework and class work. We have dreamed of this day for a while, and now, here we stand at the end of our eighth grade year.
Ocampo’s parents are Marida Pensader and Roman Ocampo, and his only brother, Justin Ocampo, is an incoming second grader at Mount Carmel.
