Fiesta Filipino, Sagala ’08 celebrate Pinoy culture
The Saipan Grand Hotel and Fiesta Resort and Spa teamed up to organize the first Fiesta Filipino and Sagala 2008 event, held early Wednesday evening at the Fiesta’s Hibiscus Hall, in celebration of the 110th celebration of the Philippines’ Independence Day.
About 160 people participated in the dinner party that also featured performances from the Bayani Association Dance Troupe.
The food festival was a buffet of different Filipino delicacies that included caldereta, adobo, etc. The Bayani dance troupe, meanwhile, gave a 20-minute dance number combining different Filipino folk dances, one of which was the Pandanggo sa Ilaw.
“It was really a successful event as many people attended,” said Fiesta’s Food and Beverage manager Lance Razon.
Saipan Grand’s events manager Oscar Yema said it took the two hotel companies and Filipino organizations three months to prepare for the occasion.
“This is not exactly part of our business, but part of our social activities,” said Yema. “This is basically our way of supporting the Filipino community, and we wanted to have our own celebration for the Philippine Independence Day.”
“We received several good comments from the guests that the food was really delicious,” he added.
The special guests for the event were Philippine Consul General Wilfredo Miximo, Tsutomu Higuchi from the Japanese Consulate, Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela, and Tan Holdings president Jerry Tan.
The major sponsors for the event were San Miguel Beer, Pacific Trading Co. and the Philippine Consulate General.
