Paul Pangelinan, Allan Hernandez, and Ed Echavez topped their respective divisions in the first week of the Philippine Bowling Association Classified Tournament held last Sunday at the Saipan Bowling Center.

Pangelinan is leading Class A (bowlers with an average of 170 pinfalls or more) with a six-game total of 1,138, good for 189.67 per game.

Kitz Barja is 13 pins off the leader with his 1,125 total and 187.5 average. Third place is Simon Manacop who managed 1,121 pinfalls for a 186.83 average.

Richard Leong (1,117 pinfalls), Jon Eparwa (1,050), Percy Omechalang (1,049), Raul Dumapit (1,028), Lito Teodoro (1,012), and Orlie Ebuen (952) make up the rest of the players in Class A.

Hernandez, for his part, finished first in Class B after knocking down 1,084 pinfalls to average 180.67. He is followed by Eric Rabang (1,071), Ferdee Generoso (1,067), Yho Villavicencio (1,031), and Roger Vales (1,023).

Class B are for bowlers who average between 155 and 169.

Bragging rights for Class C (154 and below) currently belong to Echavez after he came away with 1,015 pinfalls (169.19) at the Oleai bowling venue also last Sunday.

Rene Carisao is second in the division with his 996 followed by Dennis Pacheco (960), Ric Brum (949), and Jeff Garcia (934).

Competition resumes this Sunday with the six slots for the three divisions still up for grabs. The Top 6 in Class A, B, and C will figure in a stepladder finals.

The first game will have qualifiers No. 5, No. 4, and No. 3 taking on each other with the winner squaring off against qualifier No. 2, with the winner of that game challenging the division’s topnotcher who will have a twice-to-beat advantage in the finals.

Class A champion takes home $350, runner-up $300, and third place $200. Class B’s top bowler, meanwhile, pockets $250, second place $200, and third place $150. The winner of Class C, for his or her part, gets $150, second place $100, and third place $50.

Aside from the PBA Classified Tournament, the bowling association will host the Bowler of the Year Tournament on July 20 also at the San Jose bowling venue.
