School break helps CUC’s rotating outages
The school vacation is helping the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. in managing the implementation of rotating outages on Saipan, according to CUC executive director Antonio Muna.
He said the school break allows CUC to have greater flexibility in alternating the hours for the different power feeders.
“With the schools up and running, what happens is you only isolate in the morning those areas with schools. Now that schools are on summer break, you can have a rotating schedule that would be independent,” he said.
Muna said everybody is now sharing the load shedding schedule.
CUC has been implementing a two-hour load shedding schedule from 8am to 10pm everyday.
This year the opening of public schools will be in September in order for the Public School System save money on power.
The government and autonomous agencies reportedly owe CUC a total of $1.4 million in utility billings for the month of July and August 2007.
According to CUC records, of the government’s $1,439,616 utility balance as of Aug. 31, 2007, PSS incurred the most, with $1,032,647.
Being the biggest agency, PSS has been consistently the top utility user among all government entities.
