Tournament director Rey Ferraz gave himself a new hat to wear last Sunday and that is of Fil-Taga Golfers Association June Ace after topping the monthly tournament held at the Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort.

Ferraz fired a net score of 66 to win the competition. He won on the strength of his 24 handicap which sliced his gross 90 for the score to beat in the June Ace.

John Matsumoto was just a shot off Ferraz’s pace with his net 67. The 21-handicap Matsumoto needed 88 strokes to finish the 18 holes of golf.

Fellow 21-handicapper Matutino Adony took third place with his post handicap score of 71. Completing the Top 5 for the month of June were James Lin and Fr. Manny Corcuera who shot net scores of 73 and 75, respectively.

A total of 12 Fil-Taga members took part in Sunday’s monthly tee off and they are the following: Henry Bautista (76 net), Nestor Siruelo (79), Senate President Pete Reyes (80), Freddie Cataluna (80), Jess Yumul (80), Mando Guban (81), and Ted Malaran (84).

Established in 1993, Fil-Taga’s tournaments operate under a computer-controlled handicap system that creates parity among players in the A and B Flights.

A Fil-Taga Ace of the Month champion is crowned monthly. Regular tournaments are scheduled once a month, normally every third Sunday. Green fees are in the $35 to $40 price range for most tournaments.
