All motorists on the islands are being urged to drive with caution due to intermittent heavy showers that are forecasted to hit the Marianas chain within the next day or so.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Emergency Management Office said that visibilities may be briefly reduced to below one mile in the heaviest showers.

Rapid runoff may also cause ponding of water on roads and in low-lying areas. Residents in low-lying areas are advised to take extra precautionary measures due to water runoff.

Latest forecast and satellite data coming from the National Weather Service Office in Guam shows an upper low northwest of Guam with widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms edging southeast toward the islands.

According to EMO, “another shower [is] developing south through west of Guam and up toward our area. Approaching showers from the northwest and south will be decreasing after midnight. Scattered showers are expected again [yesterday] as this upper low will still be hanging about northwest of the islands before pulling away to the north [today].” (Saipan Tribune)
