DCCA says no discrimination at NAP
Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary Melvin O. Faisao disputes claims of discrimination regarding the administration of the federal food stamp program.
“We are charged with following the law and all applicable federal regulations in the administration of this program and we take this responsibility very seriously,” said Faisao.
Faisao said the Department of Community & Cultural Affairs, which administers the federal program, welcomes all food stamp applicants and will ensure that all applicants meet all of the legal requirements for the program.
Faisao was responding to discrimination claims made by non-resident workers earlier this week. The guest workers claimed that American citizens are being given preferential treatment in the administration of the food stamp program. Faisao disputed the charge and said that DCCA is merely working to protect against fraud and abuse, so that only those eligible to receive benefits are served according to federal law.
“I regret that some nonresident workers feel frustrated by our legal requirements, but we will continue to do our best to serve eligible nonresident workers and their families while still meeting all of our legal requirements,” said Faisao. (PR)
