Subway Investments Corp. has donated 50 meal vouchers to volunteers of this year’s Oceania Championships and Oceania Grand Prix.

The donation was handed over by Stella Fong, Subway Investments Corp. vice president, to Rep. Ramon A. Tebuteb, chairman of the Oceania local organizing committee, in the Subway office at Transpacific Business Center in Gualo Rai on June 19.

Fong said the donation, given upon the organizing committee’s request, was a token of S Subway’s support for the volunteers and the event itself, while keeping in line with efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle.

“Sports events like the Oceania and Subway go together because both adhere to a healthy lifestyle. That was why we did not hesitate when we received their request,” Fong said.

Tebuteb, who sits on the board of the Northern Marianas Athletics, which coordinated the regional sports event, said he was very pleased that Subway gave 50 meal vouchers.

“This is a lot,” he said. “These vouchers will go a long way. They will only be for the volunteers. We are very happy and I am very, very thankful to Subway for the support.”

Tebuteb, who said he himself is a regular Subway customer, said he prefers Subway’s sandwiches over those offered by other fastfood chains on island because of the nutritional value the sandwiches have.

Subway is the only restaurant chain in the CNMI offering health foods.

The Oceania Championships and Oceania Grand Prix, which brought together top athletes across the region, kicked off on June 21, and will be held until June 28.

Approximately 300 athletes and officials from 21 member federations are expected to be on Saipan for the event.

Participants include teams from Australia and New Zealand, American Samoa, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Guam, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, Norfolk Island, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tahiti, Tonga and Vanuatu. (PR)
