Happy campers set for LibDay parade
Nearly a week before the annual Liberation Day Parade, several families have already begun setting up tents along Beach Road, staking out prime spots that will give them an unobstructed view of the July 4 parade.
However, the tradition is no longer just a means to reserve the best spot for the Liberation Day parade; it has also become a reason to reunite family members and friends.
That’s true for the Torres family, who said the Liberation Day parade is not the only reason why they began camping out; rather, the tradition has also become part of their summer fun.
“It’s the kids’ vacation right now, so we are having parties for them,” said Joanna Torres.
The family does this every year and the practice has become a tradition. “We also did this last year, the same place, the same people, and the same activities,” said Torres.
There are approximately 30 members of the family. Five of the Torres families are some of Joanna’s siblings, and their spouses and children.
They have been camping out since Tuesday last week and have reserved a decent spot for the parade, right across the Century Insurance Centre in Garapan.
While waiting for July 4, family members have been busying themselves with leisurely activities such as swimming, barbecuing, partying, or just lying down and staring at the stars. The family also celebrated some of the children’s birthdays.
