Sablan is ’08 Liberation Queen
Kaylynn Lizama Sablan was crowned the 2008 Liberation Queen Wednesday night during the coronation program held at the Liberation Festival grounds in Garapan.
The 16-year-old Kagman High School student bested three other contestants by selling more than 5,000 tickets to win the crown.
“I was shocked, I wasn’t expecting it, and it was really a surprise. I only learned that I won when they announced it,” said Sablan.
“[My family] knew I was the winner, but they didn’t tell me,” she laughed.
The beauty pageant is a fundraising drive by the Saipan Mayor’s Office.
Carley Laniyo was crowned 1st Princess, while Luciann Indalecio was named 2nd Princess. The Royal Princess title went to Haoting Romolor.
Sablan, the daughter of Maryann Lizama and Lorenzo Robert, said she would continue helping the Saipan Mayor’s Office bring in more tourists, as she wants to become an ambassador someday.
Right after the Coronation Night, Sablan and her family went around the carnival.
Mayor Juan B. Tudela said he is proud of all the contestants.
“The four beautiful girls worked so hard for more than a month to raise funds as they competed to be our Liberation Day Queen 2008,” said Tudela. “I would like to thank the parents, families and supporters of these four beautiful girls. Thank you for your unselfish support to help their candidate, especially during these difficult times.”
