Hundreds are expected to participate in the Division of Youth Services’ Summer Youth Sports and Empowerment Camp that will be held July 14 to Aug. 1, 2008.

Applications are due on July 8, at 4:30pm at the Volunteer Program Office on Capitol Hill, House No. 1340. Registration is $5.

The one-week day camp will be held July 14-18, from 8am to 11:30am, while a two-week sports camp will be held from July 22, to Aug. 1 (except weekends), from 8am to 11:30am. Participants are to be dropped off at the Ada Gym at 7:30am. Pickup time is 11:30 am.

The first 200 applicants will be able to join the program. “Right now there are about 50 applicants,” said DYS’ Zina Nekafis.

Participants will be playing baseball, track, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and badminton, and will learn coconut weaving, sand painting, the basic steps of creating music, making colorful art out of recycled products, and face painting.

Application forms may be picked up at the Ada Gym office.
