Japanese entertainment celebrities kicked off a charity concert Thursday night at the Hyatt Regency Saipan’s SandCastle, with hundreds from Japan and members of the Japanese community on Saipan in attendance to watch the show.

The occasion also served as the awarding gala for the 2008 Miss Saipan beauty pageant. The contest itself was held in Japan but the presentation of awards was held prior to the concert.

The Grand Prix Award went to Shoko Hamada, while the Miss Photogenic award went to both Yoshimi Hamazaki and Kaori Minami. A Special Award was presented to Asu Ka.

Afterwards, Japanese celebrities Kojiro Shimizu, Tamotsu Ishibashi, and Goro Noguchi took the stage for a night of popular Japanese music.

“It was a short concert, but everyone was really satisfied,” said Pacific Eagle Enterprises vice president Aya Matsumoto.

The group left Friday but they promised to come back to Saipan next year.
