Juan Camacho, supervisor of the Emergency Management Office’s Seismic Section, has been named the new public information officer for EMO effective yesterday, July 25, 2008.

EMO acting director Mark S. Pangelinan announced Camacho’s appointment in a statement issued to the media yesterday.

AS EMO’s PIO, Camacho will be the main spokesperson for the agency and he will be working closely with reporters and press secretary Charles Reyes and other agency and department PIOs “to ensure that accurate and timely information is disseminated to the general public.”

“It is critical that our office have a PIO during the times of disaster and emergency. The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) realize the importance of having a PIO. It will assist in the release of accurate and timely information,” said Pangelinan.

Also, during a disaster—whether natural or man-made—a Joint Information Center will be established where federal state, and local PIOs join efforts to disseminate accurate and up-to-date information to the public.

“I have every confidence in Mr. Camacho’s abilities. He is seasoned EMO staff and is capable of performing the extra duties I have assigned him,” said Pangelinan. (Saipan Tribune)
