WIA interns excited for Monday
With the first batch leaving, the Workforce Investment Agency summer program kicks off Monday with a second group that also wants to gain experience in the workplace.
Here, two interns share how they feel about going to work on Monday.
“This will be a good experience for me because I’m going to be learning how to become an editorial assistant,” said Mariefe Carreon.
“This will also be my first job and its great how the WIA program helps us,” she added.
This will be her first job, and she will be doing her internship with the Saipan Tribune.
Carreon wants to save and buy a cell phone.
Sixteen-year-old Ann Shelley De Castro will be doing her internship with Ace Hardware Gualo Rai as an administrative assistant.
Like Carreon, this will be her first job. She wants to open a savings account, shop for clothes, and prioritize giving her mother half of all her paychecks.
“I have applied for a lot of jobs, and I only got one interview and I didn’t get the job,” said De Castro, so she looks forward to actually having one on Monday.
“I think this job will be helpful in the future because I want to join the Navy and work in the office,” she added.
This summer a total of 686 will undergo the WIA program, ranging in ages from 14 to 19.
