Century Insurance tops Thursday Night League anew

Century Insurance had everything covered during the 24th season of the Philippine Bowling Association-Capital Bowling Center Thursday Night League and romped away with the overall championship based on its 50-22 win-loss record.

Members of the team were honored in a simple ceremony last July 24 at the Garapan bowling venue prior to the kickoff of the 25th season of the weekly team bowling competition.

On hand to receive their championship trophy were Century Insurance members Ador Dimaano, Raul Dumapit, Raphael Zapanta, Ross Zapanta, Raymond Zapanta, and Roman Mamauag. Jerry Tan, Ruselle Zapanta, and Simon Manacop are also members of the champion team.

Century Insurance finished eight wins ahead of runner-up Bank of Saipan (42-30) and 12 wins in front of third placers Staxx (38-44) and Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan (38-44). Rounding out the Top 5 was The Shark (35-37).

The aforementioned teams received between $500 and $100 depending on their place in the team standings.

Other teams that took part in the 24th season of the Thursday Night League were PSG Insurance/REA (35-37), The Company (32-40), Localz (32-40), Royal Crown Insurance (31-41), and DFS (27-45).

In the individual awards, Manacop won the high average award with his 197.84 average, while The Shark’s Gloria Omechalang copped the award for women with her 167.05.

PSG Insurance’s Manuel Castro and Omechalang were also honored as most improved bowlers after hiking their averages to 11.44 and 13.24, respectively, this past season.

The Company’s Joe Sugue, meanwhile, won the high game scratch and high game with handicap with his respective rolls of 277 and 298. Dimaano finished second in the former with his 267, while Bank of Saipan’s Ronald Epan was runner-up in the latter with his 296.

Omechalang won both categories for women with her 226 in the high game scratch and 256 in the high game with handicap.

High series scratch belonged to The Shark’s Dannie Robles with his 729, followed by the 704 of Staxx’s Richard Leong. Omechalang won for the women with her 687.

Epan was without peer in the high series with handicap with his 755 with Robles 747 coming in second. Omechalang completed her sweep of the individual awards by nailing the women’s award for the category with her 687.

In the special team awards, Century Insurance won the high game scratch with its 1,058 with The Shark running second with its 1,046.

The Company topped the high game with handicap with its 1,179 followed by the 1,140 of The Shark.

Staxx ruled the high series scratch with its 2,980 with Century Insurance the runner-up with its 2,957.

Last but not the least, The Shark’s 3,220 was No. 1 in the high series with handicap with the No. 2 spot going to Staxx with its 3,214.
