Billiards revival at USS Peleliu Club
Saipan’s most popular billiards venue, USS Peleliu Club, is hoping to revive the sport when it hosts a slew of pool competitions beginning this week.
USSP owner, Ken Phillips, said the Garapan watering hole and sports bar will be organizing three different tournaments every week.
“Monday is for the 8-ball ‘Pool Challenge,’ with a $1 per game charge for challengers. Winners pocket the money and hold the table. This competition can be played with as few as five entrants,” he said.
Phillips, meanwhile, said, Tuesday’s competition features a single-elimination 9-ball tournament with a $5 entry fee.
“The first competitor to win three games advances in the bracket. ‘A’ players as determined by management, will have to win four games to advance,” he said.
Last but not the least, Wednesday is reserved for the always in-demand double elimination 8-ball tournament.
“Players have at least two chances to advance for only $5,” said Phillips, adding that the start time for all three weekly pool tournaments is at 8pm with happy hour prices for both players and spectators until 2pm.
In addition to the three pool tournaments, USSP has also changed its operating hours. “We’re now opening at 8pm, with live music from 9pm to 2am Tuesday through Sunday,” said Phillips.
He added that USSP is also looking for head-to-head competition with other establishments and bar owners can call him anytime after 7:30pm to discuss days, number of players, and other details.
