A committee chaired by Cecilia Taitano-Celes engineered the recent first reunion Mass and celebration of the Benito Aflague Taitano family.

The Benito Clan gathered at the Mt. Carmel Cathedral on July 11 for a special Mass to bless the families. The Mass included a procession of candles representing the members of the Benito Clan that have passed away.

“This brought tears to all of us, as we knew the tears we cried were for the happiness of being together as a family and tears of knowing that our beloved families were present in prayers with us,” Taitano-Celes said.

A special message was offered by Fr. Ryan Jimenez that emphasized family unity and family prayer. A family photo session by generation closed the evening.

The reunion celebration took place throughout the day of Saturday, July 12. The celebration, held at the Minatchom Atdao Park in Susupe, was jampacked with exciting entertainment that included performances by Parker Yobei, the Local Boyz, the Polynesian group Tasi and a family band featuring Luis Tilipao’s group and Guam’s Arnold Kaipat.

Because the Taitano family has grown to include more than 1,000 members, a unique system of color-coding was instituted to set attendees apart by generation. Older generations wore darker colors to help younger generations recognize their elders and pay proper respect.

The reunion was happy to discover that Nick Salas and his sister were both members of the Taitano family.

Another reunion will take place in November of 2009, this time incorporating Taitanos from Guam, Saipan, Tinian and Rota. (PR)
