Act now!
The declining revenues from the Dynasty are not the fault of the decline in the general CNMI economy. The current funding shortfall is solely due to the failure of the Mayor of Tinian and the Tinian Legislative Delegation to deal with the completion of the airport over the last two and half years. Had they focused on the development of the airport from day one—the installation of the instrument landing system and the necessary fuel tanks—Tinian and the CNMI would be swimming in money now. Instead, they focused on travel to Manila and trivial vote-buying projects. The self-centered elected leadership in Saipan is not free from blame. They have totally ignored an economic development opportunity that would have defused the loss of the garment industry. Now the people of Tinian and the people of CNMI are going to suffer even more than they are now.
There is no reason to expect any active support from any Saipan politician, other than Washington Representative Tenorio, as there are no votes for them here. It is time for the Tinian elected leadership to either step up the plate and get aggressive about infrastructure development on Tinian, or step down. Otherwise, the people of Tinian will have to suffer for another 17 months before we can toss out the incumbents and elect new leadership.
