Perfect bowler Danny Robles and veteran lady kegler Elena Soll won their first monthly roll-offs of the year after besting first day leaders in the July Budweiser King and Queen of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament held last Sunday and Monday at the Saipan Bowling Center.

Robles rolled four games of 200-plus pinfalls on Monday to finish with a total of 856 and a 214 average to win the men’s division.
He knocked down 212 pins in his first time out, hiked it to 230 in the second, before polishing off his victory with a 209 and 205 in the final two games.

Fellow perfect gamer Robert Talavera finished 24 pins behind Robles with his 832 total and 208 average built around rolls of 258, 189, 190, and 195.

First day leader Jon Hensley, meanwhile, improved on his opening day score by tattooing 820 pins and average 205 Monday but his four-game series of 184, 198, 214, and 224 still was only good for third place.

Raymond Angeles completed the money list when his 817 pinfall total and 204.25 average was fourth best for the July King of the Lanes. The youth bowler rolled games of 233, 209, 191, and 184.

Robles, Talavera, Hensley, and Angeles took home cash prizes of $100, $60, $40, and $30 for their feats.

In the women’s competition, Soll beat erstwhile leader Yho Villavicencio by 39 pins to win the July Queen of the Lanes.

Soll came away with a 732 total and 183 average after rolling a four-game series of 227, 149, 153, and 203.

That clearly beat the 693 and 173.25 turned in by Villavicencio on Sunday which was built around games of 190, 159, 182, and 162.

Third place was Ron Cal when her rolls of 149, 187, 171, and 180 allowed her to finish with 687 pinfalls, good for a 171.75 average.

For finishing in the Top 3 of the women’s division, Soll, Villavicencio, and Cal pocketed $70, $40, and $25, respectively.

The King and Queen of the Lanes attracted a total of 55 entries. The monthly competition is organized by Saipan Bowling Association and is sponsored by MARPAC.

Last Sunday, Raphael Zapanta won his fifth The Bing Prince/Princess of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament after besting a field of six other youth bowlers.
