Lack of submitted requirements imperil Rotary caging
The 2008 Rotary Club Summer Youth Basketball League is in danger of being scuttled even before it starts, as the failure of teams to seriously follow the deadlines for requirements has pushed back the start of the 18-under competition.
An obviously exasperated Rotary caging coordinator Elias Rangamar said instead of today’s kick-off, the curtains for the Rotary Club Summer Youth Basketball League will have to be raised on Aug. 18.
“To date no team has completed any of the requirements—birth certificates, entry fees, rosters, etc. I have no other choice but to push back the league for another week and may consider canceling the league if the teams don’t start getting their acts together,” he said.
Rangamar, who is also the president of the Basketball Association of the Northern, already postponed the start of the 18-and-under basketball competition last week to give participating teams more time to complete their roster and raise their entry fees.
The 2008 Rotary Club Summer Youth Basketball League originally eyed an Aug. 4 start date.
Entrance fee for the Rotary league is $150 for the 15-18 division, while teams hoping to see action in the 14-and-under age group need only to fork over $100.
Division I (15-18) will be played Monday to Friday beginning Aug. 18, while Division II (12-14) will only play during weekends, according to Rangamar.
Rangamar added that uniforms—at least the top—are required for all teams wishing to take part in the 18-and-under competition.

The defending champion for the 2008 Rotary league is the Rufino Aguon-coached CNMI Junior Nationals, which beat the Southern Sonics in their winner-take-all finals late last year in a score of 98-91.
