The Child Care Program of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs is now ready to present the results of its overall as well as individual ratings among the various childcare centers in CNMI.

Program director Maribel S.D. Loste said yesterday the results will be given out in a formal presentation this Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe. Registration of participants will start at 9am.

Loste explained that the rating system is part of the professional development efforts being conducted by the program through its so-called “Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale.”

Loste said the overall rating would be made public while the various centers will have the discretion if they would want to release the results of their individual ratings.

She did not give an exact figure on the overall rating but said most of the centers are doing well.

DCAA Deputy Secretary Melvin L. O. Faisao will be present at the occasion.

Loste said there are currently 21 centers but only 18 are actively participating in the series of trainings they have been conducting monthly.

She said there is a positive outlook among some 80 participants in the trainings.

Because of this, she said, they are planning to make it twice a month but depending on the needs of each center.

“They are really eager to participate and look forward to more of these trainings,” Loste said.

The trainings are mostly on technical assistance to the centers with the goal of tackling issues and challenges facing them. She said they are doing this to ensure the quality of service to beneficiaries.

“This is really a move toward quality because childcare is no longer a babysitting [method],” she said.
